The Champagne Lady Dress

I finally had the right occasion to wear “The Champagne Lady Dress.” It was a lovely time last night at the Cape Verdean Association Anniversary Gala filled with culture and celebration. These folks do so much in our community. They are now in the process of totally renovating an old movie theater into a Cape Verdean cultural center. The Champagne Lady Dress
When I was a kid back in the 70’s we used to watch The Lawrence Welk Show. Lawrence Welk for those who may not know, was a great Polish accordion player and orchestra conductor. His shows were full of lovely musical numbers celebrating great music, singing and even dancing. The costumes were perfectly fitted to everyone, they even had matching hair, ok “wigs.”  There was this one lady who sang like heaven. Lawrence Welk referred to her as the “Champagne Lady.”  Everything wonderful happened in this show. Lawrence Welk liked using the word “wonderful” to describe just about everything. He was “wonderful” himself! Anyways, this most recent dress is an inspiration from the show. I love the elegant proper look and feel of this dress. I also adore the capelet. I find it romantic to have fabric flowing around the arms with air movements. Like you can float in any party. I don’t know when I’ll get a chance to wear this dress. I do know I’m already enjoying sharing my sewing story and wonderful memories this dress brings me. I still watch the re-runs of Lawrence Welk. As a matter of fact, I watch it every Sunday night with my mother. It’s simply wonderful! And as Lawrence Welk  always says at the end of ever show, “ always keep a song in your heart.” I hope you enjoy taking a look at my latest sewing creation. I used Vogue pattern V8899 and as usual,  I made a few changes to the pattern and made the capelet separate from the dress. The material is a weave mix of silk and wool. You can tell it holds well and has a beautiful shine and texture. I’m extremely happy with it. It’s one of those dresses you can wear just about anywhere and will last a lifetime. I have some more pieces from this same pattern that I hope to post soon. It's a true winner - Vogue V9266

V9266 Misses' Lined Raglan-Sleeve Jacket and Funnel-Neck Dress Hello sewing fans! I'm excited about wearing this beautiful matching jacket and dress set by Vogue. It's a true winner. I worked hard on the actual fit of the pattern. That was actually the hardest part. The fabric is a two sided color wool. I love the blue and green combination. I didn't have to line the jacket. You may notice that I also added several inches to the jacket, making it more to the natural waistline. I didn't think the crop Pattern length would work well for me. In addition,  I also added length to the dress. I used this pattern several times over. I hope to blog more about it as I use the outfits. Honeycomb Smocking Dress Hello everyone! I’ve been working on this dress for some time now. I never thought I could take so long in making a dress, but I have. First, I pleated the material and then I cut the dress. I kind of made it up as I went along. The dress was too big at the waist, so I decided to smock it. It’s a long process. It was the first time I’ve ever did anything like it. I had no idea where I was going with it. But that’s what makes it exciting. Overall, I’m pleased with it. I’m just tired of looking at it. I still have two more rows of smocking at the waist and I want to make a matching purse. And when I’ve completed this dress, I will be putting it away and hopefully only look at it next winter. I don’t have anything lined up right now for a new project. Which is a good thing. I want my sewing adventures to be fun and un-expecting. Sometimes, it’s good to just take some time to reorganize yourself. I might just do that for a short while. Meanwhile, I
