Doctor Zhivago Inspired Hats


Why should “Lara” have all the fun?
I’m a huge fan of the Doctor Zhivago film. I have watched it countless times through the years.  I love everything about the movie…the romance, history, location, snow scene, ice palace and of course the Russian hats and furs. So much so, that for years, I’ve experimented with making some hats and coats of my own. This past week, old man winter set in. And all of  sudden, I had an inspiration to make more hats. And so I did. A few at that. They are all made out of fleece. They are all different. The brown hat, I actually decorated it with a braid from the same material. The blue, I added pleats and the cranberry, I made a matching hood. I love the hood combination. It’s warm and very comfortable for walking in the winter months ahead of us. I hope your inspired to create your own hats. I used no pattern. I learned a lot about hat making through the years. There is no limit to what you can create. I already have a few more ideas I’d like to try. Well, back to the sewing studio. I do have a dress that I need to finish before the end of the week. It was last weeks project that I tossed aside for the hat making frenzy. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the Doctor Zhivago inspired hats. Making hats is such a pleasure the whole world can enjoy. The material is a weave mix of silk and wool. You can tell it holds well and has a beautiful shine and texture. I’m extremely happy with it. It’s one of those dresses you can wear just about anywhere and will last a lifetime. I have some more pieces from this same pattern that I hope to post soon. It's a true winner - Vogue V9266

V9266 Misses' Lined Raglan-Sleeve Jacket and Funnel-Neck Dress Hello sewing fans! I'm excited about wearing this beautiful matching jacket and dress set by Vogue. It's a true winner. I worked hard on the actual fit of the pattern. That was actually the hardest part. The fabric is a two sided color wool. I love the blue and green combination. I didn't have to line the jacket. You may notice that I also added several inches to the jacket, making it more to the natural waistline. I didn't think the crop Pattern length would work well for me. In addition,  I also added length to the dress. I used this pattern several times over. I hope to blog more about it as I use the outfits. Honeycomb Smocking Dress

Honeycomb Smocking Dress Hello everyone! I’ve been working on this dress for some time now. I never thought I could take so long in making a dress, but I have. First, I pleated the material and then I cut the dress. I kind of made it up as I went along. The dress was too big at the waist, so I decided to smock it. It’s a long process. It was the first time I’ve ever did anything like it. I had no idea where I was going with it. But that’s what makes it exciting. Overall, I’m pleased with it. I’m just tired of looking at it. I still have two more rows of smocking at the waist and I want to make a matching purse. And when I’ve completed this dress, I will be putting it away and hopefully only look at it next winter. I don’t have anything lined up right now for a new project. Which is a good thing. I want my sewing adventures to be fun and un-expecting.
