#42 Dress - Some place and time in India

I’m slowly putting away my summer dresses and brining out my fall collection. Today, I wore this dress, which I made last year. Again, it’s one of the first from the “Love Of Mother” dress collection. This collection is important to me. It’s how I got started in this whole journey of creating dresses while taking care of my mother. It also shows progression of new sewing skills. I used vogue V8764 pattern. I played around with the skirt and added pleats on both sides. This fabric is very unusual and reminded me of some place and time in India. Not that I’ve ever traveled there, but I do have an attraction to it’s people and their culture. The fabric came with wide stripes at every yard. I loved it when I first saw it at Joann’s fabrics.



 
When I bought it, I had no idea what to do with it. After some fun experimentation, this is what I came up with. I worked the stripes both vertical and horizontal. I also got into pleating and carried the skill into other dresses. I like this dress very much.

 
  I wore it last season to a few parties. It’s very attractive and colorful. I feel a bit exotic in it. I’m so glad to have worn it again today. It’s definitely a keeper. This photo was taken about a year ago with some of my colleagues. It was the first time I wore the dress. Great time.

The material is a weave mix of silk and wool. You can tell it holds well and has a beautiful shine and texture. I’m extremely happy with it. It’s one of those dresses you can wear just about anywhere and will last a lifetime. I have some more pieces from this same pattern that I hope to post soon. It's a true winner - Vogue V9266

V9266 Misses' Lined Raglan-Sleeve Jacket and Funnel-Neck Dress Hello sewing fans! I'm excited about wearing this beautiful matching jacket and dress set by Vogue. It's a true winner. I worked hard on the actual fit of the pattern. That was actually the hardest part. The fabric is a two sided color wool. I love the blue and green combination. I didn't have to line the jacket. You may notice that I also added several inches to the jacket, making it more to the natural waistline. I didn't think the crop Pattern length would work well for me. In addition,  I also added length to the dress. I used this pattern several times over. I hope to blog more about it as I use the outfits. Honeycomb Smocking Dress Hello everyone! I’ve been working on this dress for some time now. I never thought I could take so long in making a dress, but I have. First, I pleated the material and then I cut the dress. I kind of made it up as I went along. The dress was too big at the waist, so I decided to smock it. It’s a long process. It was the first time I’ve ever did anything like it. I had no idea where I was going with it. But that’s what makes it exciting. Overall, I’m pleased with it. I’m just tired of looking at it. I still have two more rows of smocking at the waist and I want to make a matching purse. And when I’ve completed this dress, I will be putting it away and hopefully only look at it next winter. I don’t have anything lined up right now for a new project. Which is a good thing. I want my sewing adventures to be fun and un-expecting.
